CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

Students applying for admission to certificate-only programs may demonstrate English language by submission of a high school diploma from an accredited high school in which English is the language of instruction.

In cases in which English language proficiency cannot be demonstrated by the submission of a high school diploma from an accredited high school in which English is the language of instruction, proficiency may be assessed by programmatic admissions requirements which include applicant submission of written and verbal essays.

Example:

Applicants to the institution’s EMT-B, AEMT, and Paramedic programs must submit written essays that enable admissions personnel to determine their readiness to successfully complete their studies. Essays should demonstrate a reading level of at least 8th Grade proficiency as determined by scores on the Reading Level Assessment via https://readable.io/,
http://www.readabilityformulas.com/ or a comparable tool.

EMS programs also require recorded video essays which help admissions personnel assess an applicant’s command of spoken English.

DEGREE PROGRAMS

Students applying for admission to degree-granting programs, whose native language is not English and who have not earned a degree from an accredited institution in which English is the language of instruction, must demonstrate proficiency by one of the following:

Receiving a score of at least 500 on the TOEFL PBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language);
Receiving a grade of 61 on the TOEFL iBT (Internet Based Test)
Receiving a grade of 6.0 on the (IELTS) International English Language Test; or
Receiving a grade of 44 on the Pearson Test of English Academic Score Report
A high school diploma from an accredited high school in which English is the language of instruction satisfies the institution English Language Proficiency requirement.
