Advanced Placement is a process by which the institution may choose to recognize prior learning experiences and apply that recognition in such a way as to allow an individual student to meet certain current requirements through prior learning. Decisions regarding Advanced Placement are made on a case-by-case basis. Advanced Placement may reduce the duration of a course or program for students who have been granted approval for Advanced Placement credit. Students who receive approval for Advanced Placement may include physicians, Doctors of Chiropractic, Registered Nurses, former military medics, former military with experience in various medical fields, licensed Advanced EMTs, licensed Intermediate EMTs, former licensed Paramedics, etc. A special limited form of Advanced Placement includes acceptance of Clinical/Field experiences from other educational providers if access to the student’s documentation is still active, and access to the other institution’s proctors/preceptors/instructors is available. It is the student’s responsibility to demonstrate that they have met all program or course requirements including documentation supporting any Advanced Placement recognition. Documentation requirements will customarily be determined by the Teaching Team in conjunction with the Medical Director (in medical programs), but may be altered as needed by the institution’s administration.

It is important to distinguish that Advanced Placement is a part of the educational process and not simply a part of the admissions process. Specifically, if a student is unable to demonstrate competency in any element of the program curriculum, they may be required to participate in remedial activities which include efforts and activities that significantly duplicate elements in which a student anticipated receiving Advanced Placement. While Advanced Placement credit may be predicted at admission or enrollment into a program, it may only be assured at the end of the student’s program/course when that student is approved for graduation. Advanced Placement does not necessarily impact overall program costs or tuition rates.

The institution includes all students, including those receiving Advanced Placement credit, in the calculation and reporting of student outcomes.
