Policy Title: Advanced Placement - Previous Clinical Field Experiences

Status: Active

Policy:

In certain circumstances, the institution may choose to allow students who were recently enrolled in other EMS training programs to submit documentation from previous clinical and field experiences for credit within the institutional program. In all cases, the Teaching Team at its sole discretion may choose to allow or disallow previously completed clinical and field experience to meet current requirements. Students wishing to have previous clinical experiences considered must pay a one-time non-refundable Clinical Evaluation Fee of $50.00. Paying the fee does not guarantee that the clinical/field experiences will be accepted to meet current course requirements.

In order to be considered, the clinical/field experience must:

1) have been completed within the last 365 days.

2) have been reviewed by both the preceptor and instructor of the previous course/program and designated by them as a successful experience.

3) have been completed as a part of a portfolio in which the student had NO unsuccessful clinical/field experience attempts.

4) have been documented using either FISDAP scheduler, Platinum Planner, or another formal documentation program if approved by the program director.

After the review, the institution will notify the student of which clinical/field experience hours may be counted toward the requirements of the current program.

Documentation Requirements/Process:

Students must submit 100% of
documented experiences (including unsuccessful attempts) must be submitted by providing printed copies or PDF files obtained directly from FISDAP Scheduler.

The Teaching Team may additionally require that the student meet in person or by screen-share with the instructor and walk through the student's previously used FISDAP student-account. The account review will include ALL FISDAP materials and may not be limited to documentation related to a specific clinical/field experience. In such a case, the student will be required to use his/her own personal login credentials to obtain access to the previously used account while an instructor observes and directs the inquiry. The institution instructors will NOT request or use the student’s credentials to login to any software system. Students may be asked to discuss the clinical/field experience with the instructor and answer specific questions about the nature of the calls or patient encounters.

The institution reserves the right to contact previous instructors or preceptors for information regarding the student’s experience, and this may require that the student contact the third-party institution to provide explicit permission to release information to the institution.
