Title: 02.04.005-Clinical Cancellation Policy

Policy Number: 02.04.005

Policy Title: Clinical Cancellation Policy

Status: Active

Policy:

Students are required to attend all scheduled Clinical/Field and/or Capstone Internship shifts as assigned within their program. Attendance is a critical component of professional responsibility and is essential to student success, program integrity, and maintaining positive relationships with our clinical and field partners.

Any cancellation will be tracked and documented in the student’s academic record. If a student requests to cancel a shift any time up to 11:59 p.m. the night before the scheduled shift, the system will record the shift as a Cancelled shift. If a student requests to cancel a shift at or after 12:00 a.m. (midnight) on the day of the scheduled shift or fails to show up to the shift, the system will record the shift as an Abandoned shift.

Axon reserves the right to prohibit a student from returning to a clinical/field site after only one cancellation in order to protect relationships with partner sites. If a student cancels two or more shifts at the same clinical/field site, the student may be permanently prohibited from attending that site again. Students should also be aware that if they are prohibited from a site, all stations or locations within that site’s jurisdiction may also become unavailable to them.

Any cancelled or abandoned shift may impact a student’s overall course grade. In addition, continued eligibility to schedule future Clinical/Field and/or Capstone shifts may require completion of remedial assignments. These assignments may include, but are not limited to, reflective essays, Pocket Prep questions, additional clinical/field shifts, or other assignments as determined by the Program Director or Teaching Team.
