Policy Number: 02.04.005
Policy Title: Clinical Cancellation Policy
Status: Active
Policy:
Students who do not attend a scheduled clinical or field internship and fail to submit a formal cancellation request prior to the session may be subject to dismissal from the program, at the discretion of the Leadership Team.
It is incumbent upon students to formally request the cancellation of a clinical/field internship prior to the clinical/field internship session date using the form found at axoneducation.com/student-resources.
Students are strongly encouraged to schedule clinical/field internships as far in advance of the actual session as possible, and it is understood that personal conflicts or emergencies will arise. Cancellations have consequences, and students needing to cancel a session should only cancel sessions if absolutely necessary and as early as possible.
Cancellations are classified as “short-notice cancellations” if the cancellation occurs within 14 calendar-days prior to the scheduled session. At the discretion of the Teaching Team, students with more than three short-term cancellations may be restricted from attendance at certain sites, be required to complete additional clinical/field internships, be required to complete additional didactic assignments, complete a counseling session with an instructor, or be removed from the program.
Failure to appear for a scheduled clinical/field internship rotation without approved cancellation will result in additional course requirements at the instructor’s discretion including, but not limited to, the writing of a successful paper, taking additional Timed Adaptive Testing, or additional hours of clinical/field internship. Two or more instances of arriving late for a scheduled clinical/field internship may be considered a breach of Critical Criterion #4.
Any cancellation has the potential to cause frustration with the associated clinical or field provider and creates additional work for all stakeholders. As a result, the institution reserves the right to place restrictions upon any student’s clinical/field requests to accommodate the needs of providers.
In the event of personal emergencies that impede the student’s ability to maintain compliance with the aforementioned protocols, the Leadership Team shall assume the responsibility of reviewing the situation and deciding upon the appropriate course of action.
