Policy Title: Clinical, Field, and Internship Requirements for EMS Programs

Status: Active

Policy:

Students in EMS programs/courses will be required to participate in face-to-face clinical experiences and field experiences. Students are required to demonstrate competency in cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains. Success is evaluated regarding these experiences starting before the actual experience begins, during the experience, and after the experience as students demonstrate their competency at appropriate documentation.

These experiences are partially evaluated by Preceptors and other medical professionals who are not employed by the institution. It is essential that students respect the powerful and yet delicate relationship that these participating providers and provider-organizations have with the institution. Students are expected to demonstrate exceptional affect when working in these environments through professional speech, conduct, dress, appearance, etc.

Feedback from preceptors is taken into account when evaluating the overall competency of students in clinical and field settings. If a preceptor's feedback indicates that a student lacks the necessary competency or affect to perform the role of an EMS worker, the institution has the authority to implement a remediation plan, which aims to address the student's specific deficiencies and ensure they can successfully demonstrate the required competency prior to completing their program.

Students will complete assessments, treatments, and tasks under direction or support of these various preceptors. It is not uncommon that a student is employed by a site which they are completing these experiences. The expectation is that at no point will a student be substituted in the position of an employee and vice versa. All providers, services, facilities, and institutions are expected to follow national, state, and local protocols and regulations, and the student should comply with the direction of the facility at which they are present. Students anticipating an upcoming clinical, field, or internship experience in such an environment should contact support@axoneducation.com well in advance of the scheduled experience to seek clarification of this policy.
